HUSSY HICKS
Hussy Hicks are an acoustic folk/roots duo featuring guitar virtuoso Julz Parker
and renowned vocalist Leesa Gentz. Their set touches upon funk-gypsy through
folk/country to high energy blues/roots with loads of harmonies and intense
percussive rhythms.
BUCK AND DEANNE
Buck & Deanne’s sound draws deep on the roots of country, rockabilly, folk and
blues music. They sing songs of yearning, hurt and hope, about a place - like
life - where joy and sorrow walk hand in hand. Together they collaborate on
Buck's original material as well as placing their own special arrangements on
the classics.
RUBY FOR LUCY
Sydney duo writing original music described as ‘whimsical folk’. Young, fresh,
with an original sound and delightful harmonies, audiences comment that “The
songs are just like pictures”. The duo have been together for @ 3 years and
have performed on some of Sydney’s best stages, including The Basement, The
Vanguard, The Supper Club, Bar Me and Raval, to name a few
TAKADAMI
An original fusion of musical styles inspired by the multi-cultural society of
Australia today, plus a twist of jazz and improvisation.
MICHAEL JOHN AZZOPARDI
Drawing on celtic/eastern folk, blues, jazz and alternate rock,
singer/songwriter/guitarist, michael-john azzopardi has developed a unique
brand of music. Combining fluid masterful guitar work with a richly textured
voice to captivate and transport his audience. His performance includes
traditional folk, not-so-traditional folk alongside his own original material.
THAT’S THAT
That's That are a songwriting duo - two women, two voices, gentle guitar,
chimes, Congas, percussion and harmonies. Their music blends folk, jazz and
soul. Original songs with messages of love and hope as one travels the road of
life's journey. You can visit them at www.myspace.com/thatsthat.com.au
BEESWING
Bad-arse folk rockers? Sensitive new age traditionalists? Contemporary pop
crooners? Beeswing defy a label. The band that brought you workshops on the
genius of Richard Thompson, and the creative force of carbon have recently
finished their new album, ‘First Flight’ and are ready to offer Platinum Frequent
Flyer Membership to a growing list of enthusiasts who appreciate the warmth,
energy and humanity of a Beeswing live performance. The band’s original
material challenges the listener, and the traditional songs remind you of why
you came to listen to folk music in the first place. Life’s baggage is free on
every Beeswing flight
SYDNEY IRISH CEILLI DANCERS
For fifty years this group has kept alive the traditional dances of Ireland
including solo step dancing, ceilli dancing and set dancing. During their
performances the dancers take their audience on a whirlwind tour of Ireland,
visiting the various villages and counties which are home to the dances
performed. Of course each area has its unique steps and sets which the Sydney
Irish Ceilli Dancers perform to an exacting standard
Tom Stone and the Soldiers of Fortune
You could be forgiven for thinking that these guys have somehow tripped into a
time-machine and landed here from the sixties. They are the epitome of old
school blues of the days of Cream oiled and flavoured with Hendrix style guitar
licks and chains, dragged into the present time by a group of young men who
are energetic, passionate, proficient and musically diverse. Yes folks, Tom
Stone and the Soldiers of Fortune are the modern day bluesy, filthy, rocky band
who love the Beatles as much as Battles- and it shows.
ANNE RIDGWAY and ROSIE MACDONALD
Two smooth, mellow voices with rich and sometimes haunting harmonies
combine with intricate, ambient chord progressions and percussive, rhythmic
strumming on guitars to present original poetic and soulful songs and ballads
with a Celtic and jazz influence expressing the power of the human spirit.
COOLFIN MAC
Pam and Norm Merrigan are the heartbeat of the dynamic 2-5 piece band
Coolfinn Mac. This mainly acoustic, multi-instrumental group delivers trad style
music with a contemporary edge, combining the magic of music from the
Celtic nations with Australian and original material.
Their CD "Between Two Shores" won the Trad & Now Magazine's (Australia's
No. 1 traditional and contemporary folk, blues, roots, alternative and world
music magazine) 2006 award for best CD in the World/Celtic Music genre.
Instrumentation includes fiddle, accordion, whistle, Irish bouzouki, guitar, bass
and bodhran resulting in an exciting fusion of past and present.
NISSA
'Nissa consists of 15 year olds Naomi Jones and Elissa Koppen from the Central
Coast who have been playing music together for three years.
On flute and fiddle, tin whistle, cajon and dulcimer, they enjoy exploring folk
music from around the world.
